I would like to formally announce to everyone my new travel goals for 2019: The 30 by 30 Travel Project. Roughly six months from now, I will be turning 30 at the end of August (the 29th to be exact) and I’ve decided to set two travel-related goals, with the intent of reaching them both by my 30th birthday. Two large components and focuses of my travels are visiting and photographing UNESCO World Heritage Sites and US National Park Service Sites.
As of February 2019, I’ve visited the following:
- 13 UNESCO World Heritage Sites
- 7 US National Park Service Sites
Add these two numbers together and I’ve been to a whopping 20 sites. Not that impressive, I know. I’ve decided that it’s time to hold myself accountable, so I will attempt to visit 30 UNESCO World Heritage Sites and 30 US National Park Service Sites by the time I turn 30 years old on August 29th, 2019. This number will include previously visited sites, so anyone with basic math skills can figure out that I have to visit the following by the deadline:
- 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites
- 23 US National Park Service Sites
Achieving this goal will most likely involve at least two international trips to destinations with high concentrations of World Heritage Sites, and several road trips of varying length within the United States. If, for instance, I visit a site like Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky, it will count for both categories, as it is both a World Heritage Site and a National Park Service Site.
Wish me luck, and be on the lookout for announcements regarding other travel projects I look to start in the near future!
